Summary Introduction Commonly, resin composites/cements fail to achieve proper bonding to fiber posts when their surfaces have not been previously etched. This study evaluated the effect of the concentration and application mode of hydrogen peroxide on the surface topography and bond strength of resin composite to glass-fiber posts. Methods and Materials Fiber posts were immersed in 24% or 35% solutions (a high-concentration bleaching agent) of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), or these solutions were applied over the post surface using a microbrush (n=10). Posts without any treatment were used as a control. After etching, the posts were silanated and an adhesive was applied. The posts were positioned in a mold, and a resin composite was incrementally inserted and light-cured. The post/resin assembly was serially sectioned into several beams that were subjected to a tensile bond strength test. The data were subjected to the two-way analysis of variance and Tukey test (α=0.05). The Dunnet's test was used to compare the experimental conditions to the control. The surface topography was analyzed using scanning electronic microscopy. Results The non-etched post presented a relatively smooth surface without fiber exposure. Except for the application of 24% H2O2, the other experimental conditions increased the number of exposed fibers and bond strength in relation to the control. Although immersion resulted in higher values for the 24% H2O2 application, the mode of application did not alter bond strength when 35% H2O2 was used. Conclusions The effect of the mode of application of H2O2 depended on its level of concentration. A high-concentration bleaching agent improved the bond strength of the resin composite to the post surface, regardless of which mode was used.

Effect of Laser Treatment, Self-Adhesive Resin Cement Brand and Thermocycling on Push out Bond Strength of Fiber Reinforced Post

The interface between the adhesive resin and fiber posts has an important role in their performance. However, It was found that the most frequent cause of their failure is debonding at the adhesive resin-dentin interface. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of laser treatment: Erbium, Diode or no treatment; and two brands of self-adhesive resin cement: hydrophobic (Smartcem2) and conventional (Breeze); in addition to the effect of thermocycling on push out bond strength of Glassix fiber-reinforced composite post. A total of ninety-six freshly extracted natural human teeth were equally divided into three main groups after root canal treatment, decoronatin and post space preparation. Teeth of group 1 were treated with Er,Cr:YSGG laser, group 2 were treated with Diode laser, while the teeth of group 3 [control] received no laser treatment. Posts in half of the speciemens of the three groups were cemented with hydrophobic resin cement (Smartcem2) and the rest were cemented with conventional resin cement (Breeze). Samples of each group were further subdivided into two subgroups according to whether they were thermocycled or not. Three slices of 3mm-thickness: cervical, middle and apical were prepared from each root. Then a push-out test was performed using universal testing machine at a strain rate of 0.5 mm/min. Data were analyzed using Unpaired t test. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test was used to study the effect of different variables' interactions. This was followed by Tukey's post hoc test when a significant difference was detected. The significance level was set at p ≤ 0.05. The results revealed that the Er,Cr:YSGG -2790 nm laser afforded greater bond strength than the diode laser. The hydrophobic self-adhesive resin cement demonstrated higher bond strength than the other brand. In addition, thermal stresses induced by thermocycling reduced the bond strength of Glassix fiber post.

Ö ÖZ ZE ET T Çürük, travma, restorasyonlar, erozyon, atrizyon ve abrazyon gibi birçok faktöre bağlı olarak çok fazla madde kaybı olan ve endodontik tedavi sonrası daha da zayıflayan dişlerin nasıl restore edileceği her zaman bir sorun olmuştur. Endodontik tedavili dişlerin post ve kor sistemleri ile restorasyonu diş hekimliği pratiğindeki en riskli işlemlerden biridir. Endodontik tedavi geçirmiş bir dişin restoratif ve protetik tedavisi, kalan sağlıklı dokuların miktarına, uygulanan kor restorasyonunun prognozuna, kor yapısına destek olan post çeşidine ve post yüzeyine tutuculuğu artır-maya yönelik yapılacak işlemlere, restorasyonun genel olarak yapısal ve estetik kalitesiyle, klinik adaptasyonuna bağlıdır. Günümüzde estetik beklentilerin artması ve adeziv sistemlerin gelişme-siyle birlikte post kor sistemlerinin seçenekleri artmıştır. Giderek artan estetik ve biyolojik olarak uyumlu maddelere olan talep, metal olmayan post kor sistemlerinin geliştirilmesine yol açmıştır. Fiberle güçlendirilmiş sistemler daha çok kullanılmaya başlamıştır. Bu derlemede, restorasyonların ağızda kalma oranı ve en yaygın başarısızlık tipleri açısından, döküm post kor ve fiber postlar ile ilgili retrospektif ve prospektif klinik çalışmalar gözden geçirildi. Buna ilave olarak yüzey işlemleri-nin post sistemlerinin retansiyon başarısı üzerine etkileri ve yeni bir post kor sistem olan yüksek performanslı polimer PEKK (polyetherketoneketones)'in üzerinde durulmuştur. The restoration of endodontically treated teeth with postcore systems is one of the most risky procedure in dental practice. Restorative and prosthetic treatment of a tooth that has undergone endodontic treatment generally depends on the amount of remaining healthy tissue, the prognosis of the applied core restoration, and the clinical adaptation of the restoration with structural and aesthetic qualities. Nowadays, with the increase of aesthetic expectations and the development of adhesive systems, the choice of post-core systems has increased. Demand for increasingly aesthetically and biologically compatible materials has led to the development of non-metallic post-core systems.
