“…Different precursors and plasma excitation methods, process parameters and reactor geometries influence the plasma polymerization process and lead to a diversity of plasma-chemical reactions and thus to different film properties [58]. The low pressure plasma processes are the most widely used: microwave (2.45 GHz) [59] or capacitively coupled radio frequency (13.56 MHz) [59][60][61][62][63][64][65] activated [60], in planar parallel electrode plates geometry [63][64][65], in steel chamber [59,[63][64][65][66] or glass tubes [62,67,68] reactors, applying a continuous [61,67] or pulsed plasma discharge [59,[63][64][65]69].…”

“…This goal could be achieved through a high degree of cross-linking, but the consequent chains high fragmentation at high discharge power determinates a strong decrease of -COOH groups density. Notwithstanding, it was demonstrated that a finely tuned pulsed RF plasma discharge allows obtaining a high surface density of carboxylic groups (10 15 -10 16 -COOH/cm 2 ), stable in aqueous solutions, able to covalently graft NH 2 terminated c-DNA probes, complementary to Listeria monocytogenes oligonucleotides, for microarray diagnostics [63] and proteins (Protein A) if deposited on porous silicon matrices [64]. Moreover, when applied to polypropylene hernia-repair meshes [65], PPAAc can be successfully loaded with silver nanoparticles that were shown to be moderately released in physiological media.…”

“…Intense bands at 1119 and 1021, 564 cm −1 , and a weak band at 975 cm −1 can be observed in (b; HAp/Ti), (c; COOH/HAp/Ti) and (d; NH 2 /HAp/Ti), which correspond to the P O stretching vibration modes, and the bands at 605 and 564 cm −1 correspond to the O P O bending mode [22]. The peak at 1713 cm −1 in (c; COOH/HAp/Ti) corresponds to the carboxyl group of PPAAc, and the peak at 3200-3350 cm −1 and 1630 cm −1 in (d; NH 2 /HAp/Ti) corresponds to the amine group on the PPAAm thin film present on the HAp/Ti substrate [23,24]. These results show that the chemical surface functionality of interest was present on the modified HAp/Ti substrates, respectively.…”

“…In order to reach a thickness of 100 nm, the following parameters are selected: (a) D.C.% = 10; t on = 10 ms; t off = 90 ms; (b) Power RF = 200 W; (c) deposition time 15 min. Before deposition an Ar etching step has been performed, in order to clean and activate the surface [29]. …”
