ZusammenfassungDie Vorteile von Titanlegierungen gegenüber den herkömmlichen Stahl-, Kobalt-Chrom- und Chrom-Nickel-Legierungen als Material für Endoprothesen sind eine gute Dauerschwingfestigkeit, eine exzellente Biokompatibilität, ein niedrigeres Elastizitätsmodul und eine hohe Korrosionsbeständigkeit. Teilweise schlechte klinische Ergebnisse, vermutlich ausgelöst durch Spaltkorrosion, haben jedoch zu einer verminderten Benutzung geführt. Um einen sicheren Einsatz zu gewährleisten, sollte das Design optimiert werden (ausreichender proximaler Durchmesser, proximaler Kragen), um übermäßige Verformungen besonders im proximalen Anteil zu reduzieren, und auf eine raue Oberfläche (Ra > 2,5 µm) verzichtet werden. Eine Weiterführung der Forschung über Oberflächenbearbeitung, wie z. B. eine Silikat-/Silan-Beschichtung, könnte weitere Verbesserungen bewirken.

Bonding of dental restorative materials to tooth tissues is one of the most important aspects in dentistry. Adhesion at the interface has been the topic of never-ending and growing discussion in the research fi eld of adhesive dentistry for quite some time. Prosthetic materials have to be cemented in the moist oral cavity either to the remaining tooth structure or to another prosthetic dental material. The affi nity of most of the dental materials to each other is inherently inadequate. Thus, to meet this harsh oral environment many so-called coupling agents are used after the surface modifi cation to further enhance the adhesion between different materials. There has been considerable research on coupling agents, with most of it focusing on silane coupling agents as compared to studies on some other coupling agents. One of the main problems with silanes is their susceptibility to humidity, and thus other coupling agents have been investigated to provide a more hydrolytically stable bonding agent. Some phosphate, zirconium and titanium based inorganic-organic hybrid compounds are also actively being investigated for the purpose. This review is focused on the coupling agents used in the contemporary adhesive dentistry including silanes which have and are being extensively studied. This review starts briefl y from the history of the coupling agents and fi nally moving on to the current trends in research on coupling agents. This review is aimed to give better view and understanding of the different coupling agents and how these can be used in adhesive dentistry in the future.

Purpose:The objective of this study was to compare the bonding strength between cement and an implant according to the cementing time. Materials and Methods:The two types of cement used were CMW Ⓡ 1 and 3 (Depuy Ltd., Blackpool, UK). Plastic molds containing CMW Ⓡ 1 were pressed onto metal blocks at 2, 4, 5 or 6 minutes after mixing the cement, while molds containing CMW Ⓡ 3 were pressed onto blocks at 3, 5, 6 or 7 minutes after mixing the cement. Tensile strength was tested with using an Instron Model 8874 (Instron Corp., Canton, MA, USA). Tensile strengths were compared using the Kruskal-Wallis test and the Mann-Whitney U test. Results:The strongest bonding strengths for the tensile load were at 2 minutes post-mixing for CMW Ⓡ 1, and at 3 minutes post-mixing for CMW Ⓡ 3. The strength rapidly decreased after 5 minutes for CMW Ⓡ 1 and after 6 minutes for CMW Ⓡ 3. Conclusion:This study suggests that the risk of loosening between cement and an implant is likely to be minimized by the surgical technique that considers the bonding strength according to time.
