Surface Analysis of Carbon Steel Protected from Corrosion by a New Ternary Inhibitor Formulation Containing Phosphonated Glycine, Zn2+ and Citrate

Abstract: Studies on surface analysis of carbon steel protected from corrosion in low chloride and nearly neutral aqueous environment by a synergistic mixture containing N,N-bis(phosphonomethyl) glycine (BPMG), zinc ions and citrate ions are presented. The effect of addition of citrate to the binary system, BPMG-Zn 2+ , is quite significant and is well explored through various studies. The surface protective nature is maintained in the pH range 5-9. Potentiodynamic polarization studies inferred that the ternary inhibito… Show more

“…The presence of phosphate groups on the surface is evidenced by the peak at 133.1 eV in accordance with the literature. 31 The P 2p peak has closely spaced spin−orbit components (Δ = 0.87 eV), and a broad peak can be observed because of an overlap of P 2p 1/2 and P 2p 3/2 signals, characteristic for phosphate species.…”

“…It is well known that a protection film will form on the steel surface with ATMP or imidazoline introduced into the solution. [25][26][27] Amino trimethylenephosphonic acid is a kind of environment friendly inhibitor, which makes little pollution to the environment, and it also has an excellent scale inhibition effect in oil and gas pipelines. Amino trimethylenephosphonic acid can chelate with the positive ion on the steel surface to form a dense clathrate protective film for anticorrosion.…”

“…It has already been basically discussed above. The second way to increase the efficiency of phosphonate CIs and reduce their protective concentration is to use them in combination with nontoxic and economically available nonoxidative additives, for example, water-soluble polymers, adsorption CIs, or complexing reagents [171][172][173].…”
