Sunflower meal for broilers of 22 to 42 days of age

Abstract: -The objective of the present experiment was to evaluate the inclusion of sunflower meal in diets formulated on total or digestible amino acid basis fed to broilers of 22 to 42 days of age. Nine hundred and sixty birds were distributed in a completely randomized experimental design in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement (two formulation criteria -digestible or total amino acids; two sunflower meal inclusion levels -0 or 15%), with six replicates of 40 broilers each. Performance (weight gain, feed intake and feed con… Show more

“…There are limited data on the influence of the dietary inclusion of sunflower meal on broiler gut viscosity. Brazilian research studies showed that 15% inclusion of sunflower meal in the diet caused a statistically significant increase in viscosity (Araújo et al, 2011). However, the inclusion of sunflower meal up to 35% in broiler diets did not increase viscosity either in the jejunum or in the ileum.…”

“…Salari et al (2009) found that the percentages weight of gizzard, breast, thigh, gastrointestinal tract and abdominal fat were not affected by dietary treatments which contained different levels of full fat sunflower seed; while, liver weight % was decreased significantly (P<0.05). Araújo et al, (2011) pointed out that use of sunflower meal up to 15% in the broiler diets did not influence growth performance and carcass and yields during period 22 to 42 days of age. Increasing dietary inclusion of SFM with enzyme blend supplementation reduced body weight gain and deteriorated feed conversion.…”

“…Enzymes are proteins capable of catalyzing chemical reactions in the digestive tract of animals, facilitating and promoting the digestion of nutrients for absorption (ARAÚJO et al, 2011). The use of enzymes in the initial phase of animal development may favor the utilization of dietary nutrients because the digestive organs are undergoing development and are not able to secrete large quantities of endogenous enzymes (MONTEIRO et al, 2006).…”
