Subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma with breast involvement: functional and morphological imaging findings

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma is a very uncommon subtype of cutaneous T-cell lymphomas. In this case report, we describe the morphological (CT and MRI) and functional ( 18 F-FDG-PET and bone scan) imaging findings in a 35-year-old patient who suffered from slowly progressing multiple subcutaneous lesions caused by this rare disease.

“…Histologically, the majority of cases are B-cell lymphomas [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. However, other types of BL, such as mucosa-associated lymphoma, Burkitt lymphoma and T-cell lymphoma have been described [44][45][46]. In our study, B-cell lymphoma was found in 94% and T-cell lymphoma in 6%.…”

“…Ulceration is uncommon (2, 3). To our knowledge, there are only two case reports describing SPTCL manifesting as a breast mass (4, 5). Initial systemic symptoms, such as fever, fatigue, and weight loss, are frequent, and hemophagocystic syndrome may be present (1-3).…”

“…Also, only a few reports represent the imaging features of lymphomatous involvement of the breast (13-15). Mammographic findings in those reports were non-specific and variable; from no detectable abnormal findings to diffusely increased opacities with skin thickening and enlarged axillary lymph nodes, ill-defined or irregular masses to well-defined lesions with a benign appearance (11, 13-15). US features were mostly of solitary, irregular mass to multiple, indistinctly-marginated, mixed hyper- and hypoechoic masses, or pseudocystic configurations.…”

“…So far, only a few cases of T-cell lymphoma or B-cell PTLD of the breast have been reported in literature (11, 13-15). Also, only a few reports represent the imaging features of lymphomatous involvement of the breast (13-15).…”
