Subclinical Inflammation and Endothelial Dysfunction in Young Patients with Diabetes: A Study from United Arab Emirates

Abstract: BackgroundThe impact of obesity and dyslipidemia on cardiovascular health in adolescents and young adults with diabetes is incompletely understood. This study evaluated the effects of these co-morbidities on markers of inflammation and endothelial dysfunction in young patients with the disease.MethodsThe study investigated sets of inflammatory, endothelial, and adipocyte biomarkers in 79 patients with type 1 diabetes, 55 patients with type 2 diabetes, and 47 controls.ResultsMean (±SD) age was 20±6 y (median = … Show more

“…These patients in addition have a increased risk of carotid atherosclerosis and cerebrovascular accidents. 9 In addition, factors such as obesity, high serum triglycerides, 10 insulin resistance, endothelial dysfunction, 11,12 glycation of paraoxonase 13 and reduced function of angiopoietin-Like Protein, 14 all contribute to different extent in HDL dysfunction and increased risk of CAD in Diabetes mellitus patients. A high intensity statin is known to reverse few of these dysfunctions and hence they play a significant role in Diabetes patients with CAD.…”

“…Chronic inflammation in HIV disease is associated with endothelial dysfunction of the cardio vasculature giving rise to reduced elasticity resulting in high blood pressure [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. This state is marked by increased IL-6 cytokine expression as manifested in patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension [9,10].…”
