Study on Aeration Optimization and Sewage Treatment Efficiency of a Novel Micro-Pressure Swirl Reactor (MPSR)

Abstract: This study developed a new type of micro-pressure swirl reactor (MPSR) for treating rural domestic sewage with variable water volume in northern China. The transformation of a traditional aeration tank to MPSR was mainly divided into three steps. Firstly, the aeration device was installed on one side of the aeration tank. Secondly, most of the top cover plate was sealed. Finally, the liquid level-lifting zone was set to achieve micro-pressure. The study measured the flow velocity and dissolved oxygen (DO) dist… Show more

“…Compared to developed countries, China has not yet achieved a sound policy, legal system, and standard treatment system for rural domestic sewage treatment [ 28 , 29 ]. Issues such as the lack of awareness among rural residents regarding sewage treatment and perfect facilities in some areas, the low efficiency of sewage treatment, and the significant consumption of freshwater resources limit the quality of people's production and life [ 17 , 30 , 31 ]. Given the unpromising status quo of rural sewage treatment, scholars have conducted comprehensive studies on effective sewage treatment in such areas.…”

“…The provision of dissolved oxygen is one of the important points for aeration in biotreatment. Ai et al [97] measured the flow velocity and dissolved oxygen (DO) in MPSR (Micro-Pressure Swirl Reactor) at a stable circular circle flow using a 0.2 m 3 /h aeration rate due to improved removal of nitrogen and phosphorus.…”

“…Some water pollutants, such as iron and manganese, become oxidized when air is mixed with it [19]. According to Ai et al [20], the dissolved oxygen supply was insufficiently when the aeration rate was at 0.1 m 3 /h and when the aeration rate was at 0.3 m 3 /h, the dissolved oxygen supply was excessive. Due to the higher aeration rate, the turbulence was more intense that lead to break the distribution of oxygen.…”
