Study of Toxicology Effects of Herbicide Paraquat on Heamatological Parameters of Mesopotamichthys sharpeyi

Abstract: Pesticides are environmental contaminants that after use in agriculture, aquatic ecosystems are entered. These contaminants can enter the food chain and can cause problems for aquatic organisms and even humans. During the acute toxicity of this herbicide paraquat on some blood parameters, Mesopotamichthys sharpeyi (the total number of red blood cells, hemoglobin concentration, and total white blood cell count, hematocrit and blood indices) in fisheries laboratories, Khorramshahr University of Marine Science an… Show more

“…Moreover, it seems that the reduction in red blood cells has been seen as a key factor which could be responsible for productivity reduction. 28 ROS (reactive oxygen species) production is seen as the medium through which paraquat dichloride exhibits its toxicity. 24 The ROS productions have been seen to result to cell damages and inducing the cascades of signaling mechanism which conclusively lead to cellular differentiation, adaptation, proliferation, necrosis or apoptosis.…”

“…Farmers in the developing countries are seen to have convenient access to it. 28 When humans encounter accidental or suicidal ingestion of paraquat dichloride, it is usually confirmed to be one of the chemicals used for suicidal attempts, with a dosage of 4 mg kg-1 b.wt. It is wellknown to be toxic to humans and animals at high doses, especially in the lungs, liver, kidneys and hearts.…”

“…Thomas [8], also cited that exposure to paraquat can be confirmed through urinary dithionite test [8]. It was discovered from several studies that paraquat poisoning alters the levels of certain biochemical parameters [9,10]. Zhou et al [10] in their research highlighted the toxic impact of paraquat in both survivors and nonsurvivors where it led to significant alteration in the concentrations of some biochemical parameters [10].…”

“…Exposure to concentrated paraquat solutions can result in skin irritation, nail shedding, cracking, delayed wound healing, and cut healing issues [11]. Additionally, paraquat poisoning leads to alterations in various biochemical parameters, as evidenced by studies highlighting significant changes in biochemical concentrations among both survivors and nonsurvivors of paraquat exposure [14,15].…”
