Study of Electrochemical Behavior, Hydrogen Permeation and Diffusion in Pipeline Steel

Abstract: The pipeline steels which are used for transportation of natural gas and crude oil suffer from hydrogen damage at their internal as well as external surfaces. The internal surfaces of pipelines are generally affected due to hydrogen induced cracking and the external surfaces due to the soil environmental conditions which cause stress corrosion cracking. In the present investigation, the electrochemical corrosion behavior of X70 pipeline steel was studied in sour environment and near neutral soil environment. T… Show more

“…Existing literature suggests that large‐scale hydrogen storage and transportation are feasible in liquid hydrogen, liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHC), ammonia, and metal hydrides (Andersson & Grönkvist, 2019; Bhagavathy & Thakur, 2022; Bhattacharyya, 2019). India can draw lessons from Australia in this respect, where the export of liquid hydrogen (Milani et al, 2020) and ammonia as a hydrogen carrier is under demonstration (Dey et al, 2021; Jayasinghearachchi et al, 2010).…”

“…Electrochemical permeation study using Devanathan and Stachurski (DS) cell is an effective way to understand H permeation behavior with good sensitivity by continuously recording the diffusive flow of hydrogen with time [19,[23][24][25]. H-permeation depends on its solubility, segregation, and trapping tendency of microstructures.…”
