Study of Bread Wheat Genotype Physiological and Biochemical Responses to Drought Stress

Abstract: This study investigates the impacts of drought-induced stress on the responses of ten bread (common) wheat genotypes to the physiological parameters and activities of POX, catalase CAT, and SOD under irrigation and stress conditions. The results of variance and mean comparison analysis indicated that the drought stress increased the activity of CAT while significantly decreased POX and SOD levels. In comparison with the irrigated plants, the photochemical efficiency of photosystem II (Fv/Fm) didn't change sign… Show more

“…The adverse impact of DS on wheat plants is evident in the reduction of maximum Fv/Fm and chlorophyll content. This observation aligns with previous findings in alfalfa (HuiHui et al., 2018), wheat (Gholamin & Khayatnezhad, 2020), and sugarcane (Pincelli & Barbosa, 2018). However, there is a lack of research exploring the combined application of SA and NaHS concerning plant responses to drought stress.…”

“…The coupling of ecological and genetic data will provide the most suitable background for preserving the ability of the biota to respond the rapid environmental changes (Sun and Khayatnezhad 2021;Tao et al, 2021;Wang et al, 2021;Xu et al, 2021;Yin et al, 2021;Zhang et al, 2021). The literature reports the following basic factors influencing the distribution of genetic vari- ation: habitat specify, plant-insect interactions, connectivity and disturbance, dispersal ability, species lifespan, reproductive rates and existing genetic diversity (Gholamin and Khayatnezhad, 2020a;, 2020c. Genetic diversity when analysed by neutral markers does not correspond to the adaptive ability of plant populations, but these types of markers are very useful for the interpretation of the past landscapes, refugia and gene flow (Brandvain et al, 2014).…”
