Study and optimization of a soaking treatment to reduce migration from plasticized polyvinyl chloride

Abstract: Commercial sunflower oil was epoxidized, and epoxidized sunflower oil (ESO) was used as a thermal stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride (PVC). This work describes a process capable to reduce the additives migration between plasticized PVC stabilized with ESO and food simulants. For that purpose, samples were first soaked in nheptane and then dried. Soaking temperature and drying temperature with time were optimized by using the methodology of experiment plans. The optimal conditions found were applied to study the… Show more

“…On the other hand, the curves of the two formulations in the presence of α-amylase have increasing curve, which indicates the phenomenon of penetration. The migratory phenomenon was influenced by agitation [ 15 ], which tolerates a good additive solubility and the renewal of the liquid in contact with the material, causing the rearrangement of the molecules at the surface of test pieces. This will increase the free surface and the volume of the pores, which allows the passage of saliva into the interior of the test pieces.…”

“…The sorption of the molecules in a polymeric film depends strongly on their polarity and their hydrophobicity, which are both linked [ 25 ]. The contact simulant (food) can penetrate into the material according to their reciprocal affinity [ 15 ]. Finelly, these results showed that presoaking process has an effect on the decrease in the rate of mass variation of the simulant considered.…”

“…The identification of the peak was deduced by searching in the MS libraries (NIST) and further confirmed by running the known chemicals for DOP. The identification and quantification of DOP in glucose solution bags were performed using m/z 149 [27]. From the chromatogram of the extract of the reference serum bag and of the DOP standard (Fig.…”
