IntroductionPolice officers hold an important role as first responders as they usually reach the location of a traffic accident before paramedics. They also provide a level of safety for traffic accident victims while still at the accident scene. This study examined the effects of first aid training for police officers and their ability to assist people involved in traffic accidents as a part of a safe community model.MethodsThe study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test/post-test approach. The recruited sample was made up of 19 police officers from Malang Resort Police Station, chosen by using the cluster technique applied to areas with high accident levels. The instruments used were questionnaires, assessing the officers’ knowledge of first aid, as well as observation sheets measuring their skills in providing first aid.ResultsThe results were analysed using a Wilcoxon test, which showed a significant effect (p<0.0001) of first aid training for a traffic accident on the knowledge and skills of police officers as a part of a safe community model.ConclusionFirst aid training is a strategy that should be implemented in order to support a safe community model. It is suggested that this training be conducted regularly by means of collaboration between police stations and medical services in order to improve pre-hospital services, which currently are limited in Indonesia.

Atlet pencak silat dalam setiap latihan atau pertandingan sering mengalami cedera, tetapi mereka tidak mengetahui tentang penanganan cedera. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan pengetahuan yang baik dari atlet pencak silat sehingga tindakan pencegahan dapat dilakukan. Dengan demikian, untuk mencapai perubahan tersebut perlu dilakukan edukasi terhadap atlet pencak silat supaya dapat mengetahui tentang penanganan dan pencegahan cedera. Edukasi yang baik dapat dilakukan dengan menggunakan media audiovisual. Media audiovisual merupakan media yang dapat memberikan gambaran yang lebih nyata karena menarik dan mudah untuk di ingat. Untuk mengetahui gambaran pengetahuan penanganan cedera melalui media audiovisual pada anggota Merpati Putih SMA Negeri 2 Purbalingga. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitatif. Desain yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pre eksperimental with one group pre test-post test design. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMA Negeri 2 Purbalingga dengan jumlah sampel 24 responden dan dengan menggunakan teknik total sampling. Pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini menggunakan kuesioner yang dianalisis dengan Paired Sample T - test. Penelitian ini menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan sebelum dan sesudah pemberian intervensi menggunakan media audiovisual dengan hasil nilai p value menunjukkan 0,000 (< 0,005). Media audiovisual berpengaruh sangat signifikan terhadap pengetahuan penanganan cedera pada anggota Merpati Putih SMA Negeri 2 Purbalingga.

Objective: The number of deaths from traffic accidents over the years ever-increasing. According to the Global Status Report on Road Safety, more than 1.2 million people die annually due to traffic accidents, with millions more getting a serious injuries. The number of victims resulting from transportation accidents (traffic) that give rise to emergency conditions, need help quickly on the scene to prevent the morbidity and mortality of the victim. The traffic police is an apparatus that served to safeguard the safety of road users and minimize traffic accident victims. Method: This research aims to know the description of knowledge of traffic police about the assistance of Basic Life Support way of breath in Police Resort Ciamis. The research method used i.e. descriptive. The population in this study are all the police officers in the traffic Office Police Resort Ciamis as many as 120 people. Samples were taken using the technique of proportional random sampling. Result: The research results showed that the knowledge of respondents about the sense of the highest frequency of knowledge category Basic Life Support enough i.e. as many as 36 people (66.7%). The knowledge of respondents about the purpose and the initial steps of the highest frequency of good category Basic Life Support. that is as many as 37 people (68.5%). The knowledge of respondents about the stages of Basic Life Support way breath (airway) frequency-the highest category of good that is as many as 27 people (50.0%). Conclusion: The conclusions of the research on knowledge description of traffic police of traffic police about the assistance of Basic Life Support in Police Resort Cimias the highest frequency of good category i.e. as many as 28 people (51.8%).
