Strawberry cultivation requires the use of cultivars adapted to the temperature and photoperiod conditions of the production region. The objective of this work was to evaluate cultivars and advanced selections of strawberry on productive performance and fruit quality, under the conditions of South Plateau of Santa Catarina State. The experiment was carried out in the municipality of Lages, in the 2016/2017 growing season. The cultivation system used was in the soil, in beds covered with black polyethylene film. The cultivars Camino Real, Benicia and Pircinque, and the selection CE 56 obtained the highest yields, above to 30 t ha-1. Benicia, Camino Real and Monterey, in turn, obtained the fruits with higher average fresh weight, around 24 g fruit-1. In the selections CE 51, CE 56, FRF 57.6, LAM 119.1, FRF 104.1, FRF PA 109.2 and the cultivars Benicia and Monterey the fruits of better quality were achieved, expressed by values of soluble solids / titratable acidity ratio above to 13. The cultivars Camino Real, Benicia and Pircinque, and the selection CE 56 performed as the most adapted to the region of study, among the genotypes evaluated.

Selection of Experimental Hybrids of Strawberry Using Multivariate Analysis

The selection of superior strawberry genotypes is a complex process due to the high variability after hybridization that is caused by the octoploid nature and the heterozygosis, making the selection of multiple traits difficult. This study aimed to select strawberry hybrids with the potential for fresh consumption and/or processing by applying multivariate analysis to obtain traits of interest simultaneously. Hybrids were obtained from the crossing among seven commercial cultivars, defining a selection of 10% of them. The experimental design consisted of an augmented block design, with two commercial cultivars, Camarosa and Camino Real, as the controls. Different variables, including the number and average mass of commercial fruits, total fruit mass, pH, soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity (TA), SS/TA ratio, reducing sugars, pectin, ascorbic acid, phenolic compounds, and anthocyanin’s, were assessed. The selection of hybrids was based on the Mulamba and Mock rank-summation index, principal component analysis, and Ward’s hierarchical cluster analysis. The selection index was based on different weights being adopted for fresh market and processing. The assessed traits had high variability between hybrids. The highest selection gains were obtained for production traits, but the different weight assignment resulted in different classifications of hybrids for both fresh consumption and processing. Most of the hybrids selected by the index remained in the same group in the principal component and hierarchical cluster analyses, which indicates that multivariate analysis is a valuable tool for assisting in the selection of superior hybrids in the strawberry crop.

A adubação do morangueiro é uma das principais práticas responsáveis pelo aumento da produção. Entretanto, ainda são insuficientes as informações sobre o efeito da omissão dos nutrientes minerais sobre o desenvolvimento do morangueiro. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o crescimento dos morangueiros, visualizar os sintomas de deficiência nutricionais e os teores de nutrientes nas folhas decorrentes da omissão de macro e micro nutrientes. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, com dez tratamentos e três repetições. Os tratamentos constituíram-se de solução completa e omissão individual de cada um dos seguintes nutrientes: nitrogênio (N), fósforo (P), potássio (K), cálcio (Ca), magnésio (Mg), cobre (Cu), manganês (Mn), zinco (Zn) e ferro (Fe). Avaliou-se: a massa fresca e seca da raiz, da parte aérea e da coroa, número de folhas e coroas, teores de macro e micronutrientes nas folhas e sintomas visuais de deficiência nutricional. A massa fresca e seca da parte aérea, o número de coroa e o número de folhas são mais prejudicados pela ausência de macronutrientes. O desenvolvimento do sistema radicular do morangueiro é menor na omissão dos macronutrientes. Menores teores de N, P, K, Ca, Mg e Fe nas folhas de morangueiro ocorrem quando são realizadas omissão desses elementos
