The rootstock influences the agronomic performance of fruit plants. In Prunus persica (peach), particularly those varieties produced in Brazil, this relationship is not well understood. We, therefore, set out to evaluate the performance of the peach cultivar Maciel with eight rootstocks, Aldrighi, Capdeboscq, Flordaguard, Nemaguard, Okinawa, Umezeiro, Tsukuba, and Seleção Viamão, planted in 2006 and evaluated in the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 seasons. Phenology of flowering, trunk diameter, canopy volume, fruit number, and yield were evaluated in the field. For the fruit, we evaluated the mass, diameter, color, flesh firmness, soluble solids concentration, titratable acidity, concentration of total phenolic compounds, carotenoids, and antioxidant activity. Plants from the Aldrighi and Nemaguard rootstocks flowered earlier than plants from the other rootstocks in 2014, and in 2015, flowering was variable in all rootstocks. The cultivar Maciel on Umezeiro had low vigor, trunk diameter, and canopy volume. On Aldrighi, Capdeboscq, Flordaguard, Nemaguard, and Tsukuba this cultivar showed good production rates. The fruit color, flesh firmness, concentration of soluble solids, total phenolics, antioxidant activity, and total carotenoids were influenced by rootstock and harvest.

Apple is one of the most consumed fruits in the world. In Brazil, apple is the deciduous fruit of major importance. Its production is focused in the southern region of the country. To increase apple tree yield and to optimize fruit quality, it is important to choose a suitable training system to obtain greater light interception and photosynthetic radiation. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate vegetative and productive aspects of the cultivar Maxi Gala grafted on seven-year-old dwarf rootstock M.9, under three different training systems: Tall Spindle, Solaxe and Vertical Axis. The experimental orchard was implemented in August, 2010 in Vacaria city, Rio Grande do Sul province, Brazil. The experiment was conducted and evaluated in (2014-2017) seasons. The results showed that Tall Spindle, Solaxe and Vertical Axis driving systems had no effect on internode length, plant height, fruit diameter and quality parameters such as pulp firmness and soluble solids. Therefore, the Tall Spindle driving system was more efficient for accumulative production, being this the indicated combination for regions with the edaphoclimatic characteristics like those of the orchard under study.

The ripening of grapes is impaired by climatic conditions due to the prolonged rainy season and thus facilitates the proliferation of diseases such as grape clusters rotting, caused by the fungus Botrytis cinerea, even before the ideal harvesting point. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of gibberellic acid (GA3) on rot and on physical-chemical quality of ‘Sauvignon Blanc’ grapevine. The experiment was carried out in the production season of 2016 and 2017 in Campanha region in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The GA3 treatments were at the doses of 0 (control); 2; 4; 6 and 8 mg L-1 of GA3. The percentage of clusters rotting and maturation index decreased, however, the titratable acidity increased with GA3 doses. The cluster and rachis length increased with application of GA3. The cluster width; cluster, rachis and berry mass and the soluble solids were not influenced by application of GA3. In ‘Sauvignon Blanc’ grapevine, GA3 reduced the percentage of clusters rotting and improved the cluster and rachis length characteristics and titrable acidity.

The SA organic elicitor is an alternative to extend the useful life of fruits by inducing the defenses of the plant and decreasing fruit rot. This study aimed at evaluating not only the effects of SA applied after the harvest in the cold storage period, but also the marketing simulation of the maintenance of physicochemical characteristics of 'Jubileu' peaches. The experimental design was thoroughly randomized in a double factorial scheme. Fruits were picked at proper maturity, in agreement with the maturity index. In the laboratory, they were submitted to SA doses of 0, 2, 4 and 6 mM and, then, kept in a cold room at 1 ± 1º C, at 90± 5%,for 7, 14 and 21 days. Afterwards, a 3-day shelf life was simulated at 25±5º C. Characteristics under evaluation were fruit mass loss, firmness, color, solids/acidity and rot. Predictive points of the variables under analysis were observed because they are important to determine the interaction between time and dose. Regarding parameters of solids/acidity, the predictive point ranged from 14.88 to 3.51 SA in 11.5 days. SA application decreased mass loss in 11.1 days at2.16 mM and firmness, in 11.3 days at doses of 2.75 mM. The predictive point of rot incidence was 5.96 at3.97 mM SA in 8.48 days whereas the one of color brightness was 68.32 at 1.25 mM SA in 19.7 days. Finally, the one of hue was 87.92 at 2.81 mM SA in 15.3 days. SA was efficient to keep the general quality of 'Jubileu' peaches.

A adubação do morangueiro é uma das principais práticas responsáveis pelo aumento da produção. Entretanto, ainda são insuficientes as informações sobre o efeito da omissão dos nutrientes minerais sobre o desenvolvimento do morangueiro. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o crescimento dos morangueiros, visualizar os sintomas de deficiência nutricionais e os teores de nutrientes nas folhas decorrentes da omissão de macro e micro nutrientes. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, com dez tratamentos e três repetições. Os tratamentos constituíram-se de solução completa e omissão individual de cada um dos seguintes nutrientes: nitrogênio (N), fósforo (P), potássio (K), cálcio (Ca), magnésio (Mg), cobre (Cu), manganês (Mn), zinco (Zn) e ferro (Fe). Avaliou-se: a massa fresca e seca da raiz, da parte aérea e da coroa, número de folhas e coroas, teores de macro e micronutrientes nas folhas e sintomas visuais de deficiência nutricional. A massa fresca e seca da parte aérea, o número de coroa e o número de folhas são mais prejudicados pela ausência de macronutrientes. O desenvolvimento do sistema radicular do morangueiro é menor na omissão dos macronutrientes. Menores teores de N, P, K, Ca, Mg e Fe nas folhas de morangueiro ocorrem quando são realizadas omissão desses elementos
