“…In some studies, the three factors are considered individually (e.g., Ribeiro et al. 2017), whereas in other studies, emotional solidarity is treated as a second-order construct, measured by its three first-order factors (e.g., Suess, Woosnam, and Erul 2020; Woosnam and Aleshinloye 2012).…”

“…The theory has been examined extensively in the United States in recent years (Woosnam et al 2014; Simpson and Simpson 2017; Joo et al 2018); several other studies have addressed the applicability of the ESS to many different settings and numerous countries, including Cape Verde (Ribeiro et al 2018), India (Patwardhan et al 2019), Japan (Woosnam, Maruyama, and Boley 2016), Macau (Lai and Hitchcock 2017; Li and Wan 2016), Malaysia (Hasani, Moghavvemi, and Hamzah 2016; Moghavvemi et al 2017), Nigeria (Woosnam, Aleshinloye, and Maruyama 2016), and Turkey (Woosnam, Erul, and Ribeiro 2017). While the emotional solidarity factors have been investigated as antecedents of the attitudes of residents and tourists in relation to conventional tourism developments, and to our knowledge, solely two research articles have recently adapted this framework to the P2P accommodation context (Suess, Woosnam, and Erul 2020; Yeager et al 2019). As elements of the so-called sharing economy, these alternative tourism services perfectly reflect the considerations discussed in Woosnam, Norman, and Ying (2009), highlighting the importance of other features and impacts of tourism, including the human aspect and relationships between involved parties.…”
