Zusammenfassung
Nach Besprechung der Literatur über den Schwefelstoffwechsel des Wiederkäuers wird über zwei Stoffwechselversuche an Hammeln und vier an Milchkühen beriditet, die u. a. zur Bestimmung der N‐, Gesamt‐S‐, Sulfat‐S‐ und Neutral‐S‐Bilanzen dienten. Zu Beginn und zu Ende jeder Bilanzperiode wurden die N‐ und 35SO−4‐Umsetzung im “künstlichen Pansen” untersucht.
In allen Bilanzversuchen zeigte sich ein überwiegen der Sulfatverwertung. Die Sulfat‐Schwefel‐Bilanzen waren immer stärker positiv als die Gesamt‐Schwefel‐Bilanzen. Die Neutral‐Schwefel‐Bilanzen waren mit Ausnahme des Versuches V stets negativ. Das beweist, daß im intermediären Stoffwechsel größere Mengen an Neutral‐schwefel oxydiert und ausgeschieden werden. Da aber im Körper keine nennenswerte Sulfatspeicherung erfolgt, muß der Schwefel, der sich bilanzmethodisch als “Sulfat‐Schwefel‐Ansatz” ergibt, vorher reduziert und zu Thioaminosäuren aufgeibaut worden sein. Während im Futter etwa zu gleichen Teilen Neutral‐ und Sulfat‐Schwefel vorlagen, enthielt der Kot im überwiegenden Maße Neutral‐Schwefel. Im Versuch I und II wurde sogar von einem Hammel und im Versuch VI von beiden Kühen mehr Neutral‐Schwefel im Kot ausgeschieden, als sie im Futter aufnahmen. Daraus ergibt sich, daß die Sulfatreduktion im Verdauungstrakt stattfindet, und zwar vorzugsweise im Pansen, wie die Versuche in vitro bestätigen.
Die Versuche wurden weiterhin unter der Fragestellung des N/S‐Verhältnisses in der Gesamt‐Bilanz sowie des in vivo‐in vitro‐Vergleiches ausgewertet. Die offen‐gebliebenen Probleme sind angeführt.
