Standardization

Abstract: Standardization research is a fairly new and is a still-evolving field of research, with possibly major practical ramifications. This article presents a summary of the authors' subjective views of the most pressing research topics in the field. These include, among others, standards (e.g. incorporation of ethical issues), the potential impact of standards, the corporate management of standardization and legal issues like Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). In addition, gaps have been identified with a respect … Show more

“…TCs and WGs often include participation by both researchers and partitioners. All participants can bring their knowledge and experience to the table, but there have only been few studies of how research-based knowledge is integrated and influences standardization and how researchers and practitioners collaborate in developing standards and guidelines (De Vries et al, 2018;Amos et al, 2019 andAtkin andBildsten, 2017).…”

“…This paper concerns the development of standards and guidelines on FM. Standardization is a topic on which only limited researched has been conducted (De Vries et al , 2018), and there is a major research gap for research on FM standardization (Klungseth et al , 2022). To address this gap, the purpose of the paper is to investigate the collaboration between researchers and practitioners and how this can impact the development of standards and guidelines on FM.…”

“…In their paper on a standardisation research agenda, (de Vries et al, 2018) point out that the enormous number of standards (which is the case in the cybersecurity domain) represents a considerable burden for SMEs. In their paper, the authors also state that research on standards' impact on SMEs is limited.…”

“…Indeed, in the development of technological products and innovation, standardization is the dominant form to achieve compatibility among products. Although the importance of standardization is evident, it is an under-investigated phenomenon [6]. In that respect, the scarce literature that does investigate the phenomenon distinguishes between three forms of standardization: market-based, committee-based, and government-based standardization [7].…”
