Standard RUS skeletal maturation of Tokyo children

Abstract: A total of 704 girls and 753 boys, all healthy, from 3 to 18 years of age, from Tokyo and its suburbs, were radiographed on the left hand and wrist in 1986. Their RUS (TW2) skeletal maturity was estimated, the 50th-centile skeletal maturity scores were obtained, and the smoothed RUS maturity curves were determined applying the cubic spline function to the 50th-centile scores. On this maturity curve the score at each 0.1 year of chronological age was obtained and allocated as a given RUS skeletal age. This set … Show more

“…Atˆrst, we investigated the discrepancy of assessment of skeletal age between TW3 and Japanese standardized procedure (J-SA), because maturation pattern of Japanese children and European children is not homogeneous (Ashizawa, et al, 1996). Our nding indicated that the trend in evaluated value of skeletal age using J-SA and TW3 was similar.…”

“…However, there was still diŠer-ence in evaluated skeletal age between two procedures, ie; TW3 determined the skeletal maturation as``late'' compared to that of J-SA in younger age group. Ashizawa et al (1996) reported that the RUS score of Japanese children were lower than that of the European (British and Belgium) standard score until 11.5 years old. Then the Japanese skeletal maturation exceeded drastically the standard score.…”

“…16 Quando se emprega o método TW, as idades ósseas estimadas são muitas vezes maiores que a IC, o que tem sido observado em argentinos 17 , italianos 18 e japoneses. 19 Em relação ao AV, se desconhece se o mesmo tem sido aplicado em outras populações para verificar sua aplicabilidade.…”
