Stability Analysis and Reliability Evaluation in Cataclastic Loose Rock Mass Blocks

Abstract: Cataclastic rock masses with multiple failure modes and mechanisms are critical geological problems in the construction of rock slopes. Cataclastic rock masses are widely distributed in slopes of a hydropower project located on Lancang River, which is located in Tibet, China. In this study, the potentially unstable block of the slope is divided into key block and secondary key block based on the key block theory, and the system reliability evaluation theory is introduced. The method for quantitatively analyzin… Show more

“…For example, in laser measurement, Zhang et al (2021) used traditional geological measurements and 3D laser scanning to acquire the spatial distribution of fractured rock masses and structural planes in multiple rock slopes in the Lancang River hydropower project in Tibet, determining the failure mode of the slopes [21]. Chen et al (2021) proposed a method for the semi-automatic discontinuity characterization of rock tunnel control surfaces using 3D point cloud data.…”

“…A cataclastic rock mass is a poorer type of engineering rock mass, which is extensively developed in large active fault zones, deep canyons, and regions with complex lithological structures 1 , 2 . Due to the high heterogeneity, discontinuity, and anisotropy of a cataclastic rock mass, its integrity and overall strength are low, in addition to its stability, which is the focus of large-scale engineering construction.…”

“…On this basis, the measure is put forward. Based on the key block theory, Zhang et al [14] proposed the stability probobility assessment method of the cataclastic rock masses. Tao et al [15] analyzed stability of a cutting rock slope of a hydropower project located on Dadu river in Sichuan province of China using the SSPC method.…”
