This study explores the personal event portfolios of amateur athletes, differentiating between those who pursue a specialized career within one sport and those who diversify within multiple sports. The impetus for this paper was the observation made in previously published research that many sport-event tourists participate in multiple sports. The twin objectives of the study are to better understand highly involved participants and to draw implications that could contribute to the events' and the country's competitiveness in sport event tourism. The study also addresses the question of whether or not these portfolio choices emerge as involvement increasesin other words, do highly involved amateur athletes tend to specialize in one sport, as suggest by recreation specialization theory? A total of 6691 participants were surveyed online in five events (cross-country run, Nordic ski, halfmarathon run, open-water swim, and road cycling), out of which 2329 were identified as pursuing a portfolio strategy. The major contributions of this paper include identification of a large number of significant differences between "specialized" and "diversified" portfolios. Planning and marketing implications that can potentially enhance the attractiveness of individual and collectively marketed events are also discussed. ARTICLE HISTORY

This study aims to examine the recognition of the Meranti Island community for cultural values and explore several factors that influence the sustainable development of the traditional sports of tual sagu and golek sagu. The traditional sports of tual sagu and golek sagu are traditional sports typical of the Meranti Islands which until now need to get more attention from the local government. The traditional sports of tual sagu and golek sagu are not just entertainment and sports media, but more than that, these traditional sports are a local cultural heritage. Therefore, the government must carry out activities to optimize growth, such as facilities, infrastructure, and infrastructure to support the development of traditional sports. Participants involved in this study amounted to 10 respondents. Respondents are key informants who understand the object of the research. These informants include stakeholders, community leaders, sports activists, and observers of sustainable development. This study uses qualitative descriptions, interviews, and observations as the basis of the research method. Data is analyzed by word cloud analysis. The results of the study show that the three goals of sustainable development, namely media, resources, and sports facilities have a significant role in the development of traditional sports. Meanwhile, the factors that have a significant influence on the sustainability of the traditional sports development of tual sagu and golek sagu are infrastructure, such as ports, sports centers, and traditional sports venues as well as events and promotions, which are determining factors for the success of developing sustainable traditional sports in the Meranti Islands.

Introduction. The attractiveness and quality of spending free time are becoming more and more important. Its crucial elements are recreation and culture which contribute to the development of interests and personality, an increase in physical activity, the discharge of nervous tension and the prevention of lifestyle diseases. The use of recreation and culture depends on many factors. For the authors, it is particularly interesting to check the level and structure of spending on recreation and tourism in relation to age. Therefore, the purpose of the article was to compare the spending on recreation and culture in two groups of households. The first concerned households where the head of the household was at most 35 years old, while the other group included households of the elderly.Material and methods. The analysis of household expenditure in 2018 on recreation and culture, including organized tourism, was based on a set of unitary unidentifiable data on household budgets, which were made available by the Central Statistical Office for a fee. The basic descriptive parameters of the structure analysis and a power-exponential econometric model were used in the research.Results. The financial situation of the household has the greatest impact on the formation of expenditure related to free time, regardless of the age of the household head. The number of people in the household is also important, which is particularly evident in the case of young households, but it is also important in 60+ households, as they are more willing to enjoy recreation and culture in the company of other people of the household. The education of the head of the household significantly affects spending on recreation and culture only among 60+ households.Conclusion. The results of the research presented in this article prove that the level of expenditure on recreation and culture depends on socio-demographic factors such as age, gender, income, place of residence, etc.
