The remarkable growth of patent applications in Asia has been the central focus of the recent studies on technological knowledge creation. However, all the Asian countries have not shown similar growth and hence, have not gained similar academic attention. Especially, the lower and middle‐income countries in South Asia are stagnating in technological knowledge creation. Sri Lanka is one such country that has high proportion of independent inventors in their innovation system. Owing to small number of inventors, there is hardly any attention given to conduct empirical studies on inventors in these countries. Therefore, inherent characteristics of inventors and innovation systems in these countries are underexplored in published academic literature. This pioneering study attempted to explore the inherent characteristics of the independent inventors in Sri Lanka as the representatives of inventors in middle‐income South Asian developing countries. The findings of the study suggest that most of the sociodemographic and technical characteristics of Sri Lankan inventors are similar to the independent inventors in industrial countries. It also indicates that demographic factors such as age, income, job mobility, marital status and technical factors such as engagement in inventions, prototype development and commercialization method have significant influence on the overall innovation success of independent inventors in Sri Lanka.

Indonesia’s foreign policy during the 2014-2019 period was quite dynamic. Out of many issues, two international issues received strong reactions Indonesian society including Rohingya ethnic group issue in Myanmar and the Uighur ethnic group issue in China. Protests against these two issues occurred in two different time periods in some regions of Indonesia, demanding the government to take firm actions regarding these issues. This paper examines Indonesia’s attitudes toward Rohingya ethnic group issue in Myanmar and the Uighur ethnic group issue in China based on constructivism paradigm using the theory of identity. This paper presents gaps in Indonesia’s identity and interests regarding these issues which led to different attitudes in responding to those issues.

Perilaku asertif perempun Minangkabau dan Batak implikasinya dalam layanan bimbingan konseling. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan perilaku asertif perempuan yang berlatar budaya Minangkabau dan Batak. Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 245 (114 siswa Minangkabau dan 131 siswa Batak) yang dipilih dengan teknik Proportional Random Sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah skala perilaku asertif dengan tingkat reliabiltasnya sebesar 0,930. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis Independent Sample T-Test dengan bantuan aplikasi SPSS 20.00. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara keseluruhanrata-rata perilaku asertif perempuan pada kategori sedang, dimana rata-rata perempuan berlatar budaya Minangkabau sebesar 68,36% sedangkan pada perempuan berlatar belakang budaya Batak sebesar 65,88%. Secara umum, terdapat perbedaan perilaku asertif perempuan Minangkabau dan Batak, dengan tingkat signifikansi 0.001. Oleh karena itu, disarankan kepada konselor dalam proses permberian layanan konseling harus menggunakan teknik penstrukturan, terutama menjelaskan azas kerahasiaan dan azas keterbukaan pada tahap awal konseling kepada siswa.
