Solitary Langerhans' cell granulomatosis of the stomach associated with gastric carcinoma

Abstract: A case of Langerhans' cell granulomatosis associated with gastric adenocarcinoma is reported. A review of the literature demonstrate an association of this entity with Hodgkin or non-Hodgkin lymphomas alone. The discussion is centred on differential diagnosis from the pseudo-sarcoid granulomatous reaction. Further reports may assist in classifying the granulomatous reaction to tumours into two types, epithelioid and Langerhans.

“…In another case, the same T cell receptor arrangement was identified in both the LCH and T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) 14. Only a few cases of concurrent LCH and solid tumors other than malignant lymphoma have been reported: 9 lung cancers and 1 stomach cancer in adults 8–11 and 3 retinoblastomas and 1 neuroblastoma in children 7, 12, 13. The current standard for the initial treatment of patients with LCH is to use the least toxic therapy.…”
