Soil Removal in Automatic Dishwashing

Abstract: During preliminary testing, an egg yolk‐calcium chloride complex was selected as a promising dishwasher test soil, and various factors were identified as being related to its removal in dishwasher washing of dishes. Data for statistical analysis were collected in con trolled laboratory tests using five water temperatures, five levels of calcium chloride in the yolk soil solution, two dishwasher positions, and two wash times. A series of tests was per formed in deionized water and a second series in hard water.… Show more

“…The number of German households that own a dishwasher has risen from 44·1% in 1998 to 71·9% in 2018 (Statistisches Bundesamt ). Dishwashers are efficient in the removal of soil (Peart and Johnston ), bacteria and food particles (Ward and Dack ; Rahman ). Automated dishwashing has been proven to be more efficient than manual dishwashing (Blackmore et al ; Stamminger ; Richter ; Vivian et al ) and consumers would like to use energy‐saving dishwasher cycles, but do not use cycles with durations of more than 2 h regularly (Hook et al ; Stamminger et al ).…”
