Soil Descriptions—Quo Vadis?

Abstract: This paper comments on the status of soil description to BS5930 in ground investigation contracts, gives a briet historical review of the development of modern soil description and deals with problems created by the British Soil Classification System. Proposals are made for working with the current Code and recommendations for the form of a future redraft are given.
