Smooth particle hydrodynamics study of surface defect machining for diamond turning of silicon

Abstract: This paper presents the feasibility study of potential application of recently developed surface defect machining (SDM) method in the fabrication of silicon and similar hard and brittle materials using smooth particle hydrodynamics (SPH) simulation approach. Simulation study of inverse parametric analysis was carried out to determine the DruckerPrager (DP) constitutive model parameters of silicon by analysing the deformed material response behaviour using various DP model parameters. Indentation test simulatio… Show more

“…The compressive yield strength of silicon is higher compared to its tensile strength [30] which is an elementary criterion of using DP model. Table 3 lists the material properties and DP model parameters of silicon [31] used in SPH cutting simulation.…”

“…The farmlands in southern China have complex rheological and creep properties which can be simulated by extended Drucker-Prager (D-P) model in ABAQUS. With a non-circular yield surface on π plane [19][20], the extended D-P model can simulate the real stretch status in three different axial. Besides, the setup model takes into consideration other factors, such as the creeping property and shear dilatancy of the soil, as shown in Fig.…”

“…In the analysis using the discrete element method, the effect of different disc hobs on the rock crushing effect is mainly studied, which is used to accurately describe various parameters of the rock and predict the force of the tools under different rocks [9]- [13]. Both the tipped hob and the disc hob are crushed by the cutter to break the rock, but unlike the disc hob which causes continuous damage on the rock surface, the tipped hob causes discontinuous damage.…”
