Smart patterning for topological pumping of elastic surface waves

Abstract: Topological pumping allows waves to navigate a sample undisturbed by disorders and defects. We demonstrate this phenomenon with elastic surface waves by strategically patterning an elastic surface to create a synthetic dimension. The surface is decorated with arrays of resonating pillars that are connected by spatially slow-varying coupling bridges and support eigenmodes located below the sound cone. We establish a connection between the collective dynamics of the pillars and that of electrons in a magnetic fi… Show more

“…High-dimensional, fractionally dimensional, and complex-dimensional physical phenomena, such as synthetic dimensions [95] and photonic synthetic frequency dimension [96,97,98], multiphase fractal media [99,100], and complex geodesic paths in the presence of black hole singularities [101], are also a subject of research. In particular, 2D materials, such as graphene, which is also the subject of active experimental research, are closely related to (2 + i)-dimensional VS surfaces.…”

“…This is usually achieved by injecting an organic solution of the dye into water, which induces the hydrophobic collapse of monomers into supramolecular structures. [39][40][41] Organic molecules comprised of electron-rich donor and electron-deficient acceptor units can facilitate charge transfer in the excited state, 42,43 ultimately improving exciton dissociation and enhancing visible light absorption. One of the most exploited self-assembled dye system in photocatalysis is based on perylene diimides (PDIs, perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic diimides).…”

“…Surface elastic waves have been extensively studied in the context of acoustic metamaterials [1]. Nowadays, acoustic metamaterials are employed for the attenuation of seismic waves [2,3], often referred to as seismic crystals [4] or seismic metamaterials (SMs) [5].…”
