Slope stability of increasing height and expanding capacity of south dumping site of Hesgoula coal mine: a case study

Abstract: This paper is devoted to improve the containment capacity of the Hesgoula south dumping site. The general geology of the dumping site was obtained through geological surveys. Physico-mechanical properties of silty clay and bedrock layers that have a large impact on the stability of the dump were measured by direct shear tests and triaxial tests in laboratory. Then ultimate bearing capacity of the substrate were analyzed and calculated. This paper proposed three capacity expansion and increase plans and used Ge… Show more

“…Coal mining under the slope not only changes the structural characteristics of the slope rock mass but also makes the stress in the slope redistributed. 23,24 Researchers have used various means to explore the stress evolution law of the mining slope 25,26 in which the force chain is an important means to reflect the transfer path and direction of the surrounding rock force. Oda et al 27 found that the force chain played an important role in the development of shear bands through experimental research.…”

“…To improve the containment capacity of the Hesgoula south dumping site, Pan proposed three capacity expansion and increase plans, used GeoStudio software for comparison, and determined the capacity expansion plan [1]. Huang took the open-pit mining slope of a mine in Jiangxi province as the research object, and the failure mode of the slope is determined as follows: slippage along the fault plane-rock plate, bending-tracing the schistosity plane of phyllite, and eventually the failure occurs along the foot of the slope, or "collapse" failure occurs [2].…”

“…Zhong and Ma (2020), He et al (2021) researched the slope stability by using the ANSYS/LSDYNA software. From the 1950s to 1960s, the ideal elastic-plastic analytical solution of surrounding rock of axisymmetric circular roadway, namely Kastner equation, was derived (Obert and Duvall 1967;Jaeger and Cook 1978). Based on the stress balance theory of loose media and the stress differential equilibrium equation, Hou and Ma (1989) obtained the coal seam interface stress and the width of the stress limit equilibrium zone (plastic zone) of the coal body.…”
