Size-controlled synthesis of monodispersed gold nanoparticles via carbon monoxide gas reduction

Abstract: An in depth analysis of gold nanoparticle (AuNP) synthesis and size tuning, utilizing carbon monoxide (CO) gas as a reducing agent, is presented for the first time. The sizes of the AuNPs are tunable from ~4 to 100 nm by altering the concentration of HAuCl4 and inlet CO gas-injection flow rate. It is also found that speciation of aqueous HAuCl4, prior to reduction, influences the size, morphology, and properties of AuNPs when reduced with CO gas. Ensemble extinction spectra and TEM images provide clear evidenc… Show more

“…Figure 9e shows the binding energy peaks at 83.8 and 87.4 eV specific for Au 4f 7/2 and Au 4f 5/2 , respectively. The characteristic features of these peaks indicate the presence of AuNPs in the metallic state on the modified PS plate surface (Young et al 2011). Also, it indicates that the physical adsorption of AuNPs on the aminated PS plate surface through the electrostatic interactions and the hydrogen bonds (Carré and Lacarrière 2007).…”

“…These excellent properties of AuNPs depend upon size and shape that are controlled by various reducing and stabilizing agents [10]. Sodium citrate [11], sodium borohydride [12], surfactants [13], various amines [14,15], and peptides [16,17] are used as common and stabilizing agents for the synthesis of AuNPs.…”

“…The first growth mechanism is the formation of particles from coalescence of the nuclei only. The second growth mechanism is the coalescence of nuclei into simple and multiple twins with further growth from monomer attachment of Au atoms on the surface . The NZVI–AC composites were obtained in a form that yielded NZVI particles attached to AC.…”
