Single‐incision robotic cholecystectomy: A special emphasis on utilization of transparent glove ports to overcome limitations of single‐site port

Abstract: SIRC can be rapidly learnt and safely performed while overcoming the ergonomic difficulties encountered during SILC. SIRC can be a viable alternative treatment for gallbladder diseases in selected patients with strong interest in cosmetic outcomes who are willing to pay the higher costs associated with SIRC.

“…LC has become the standard treatment in patients with benign gallbladder disease. With development of techniques and surgical devices, the single-incision technique began to be applied to gallbladder disease to reduce invasiveness and improve cosmetic results [6,12]. However, SSLC has been limited by poor visualization, lack of triangulation, and instrument collisions.…”

“…17,18 As mentioned before, the costs of the routine preoperative examinations and hospital fees are the same between robotic and laparoscopic groups. 9 Efforts will be needed to reduce the surgery-related costs in SIRC through the development of various robotic systems and their competitions.…”

“…27,28 SIRC overcomes these disadvantages of SILC because it allows more ergonomic positioning, and it has swapping control of crossed instruments, as described previously. 9 To strengthen these results, future studies using the objective assessment such as the change of physiologic parameters as well as the subject assessment will be required.…”
