Surgical Outcomes of Robot vs. Laparoscopic Single-site Cholecystectomy: Single Surgeon's Experience

Abstract

Background: Recently, robotic single-site cholecystectomy (RSSC) was introduced to overcome the disadvantages of single-site laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SSLC). The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the feasibility and efficacy between robot singlesite cholecystectomy and SSLC. Materials and Methods: The medical records of patients were reviewed retrospectively. All surgeries were consecutively performed by a single surgeon. The perioperative outcomes and morbidity were evaluated. Results: This study included 421 patients underwent RSSC, and 95 patients underwent SSLC. The average operation time of RSSC was significantly shorter than SSLC. There was no case required open conversion, and no critical complications such as hepatic artery injury or bile duct injury, in either group. Conclusions: RSSC was found to be a safe and feasible procedure compared to laparoscopic single-site cholecystectomy. The benefit is that RSSC provides fine visualization and comfortable movement without serious complications.
