BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES:Auriculotherapy is an integrative practice used to relieve physical and emotional symptoms, especially in relation to pain. It has a low cost and easy applicability, which makes it a viable and eligible therapeutic resource. The present study aimed to identify the contributions of auriculotherapy to improve the quality of life of professionals of the correctional system. METHODS: Experimental study, with data collection between July and December 2018 in the female public prison of a city of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Low back pain, anxiety, and stress were the symptoms selected for the intervention with auriculotherapy evaluated at each auriculotherapy session by psychometric instruments. Data analysis was performed using STATA software version 12.0. RESULTS: Women aged between 30 and 44 years old, brown, with complete higher education and living with spouse prevailed. There was a greater reduction in the intensity of symptoms in the intervention group, especially in relation to stress and low back pain, which indicates the effectiveness of auriculotherapy in this group. Os policiais penais são encarregados de garantir a ordem e segurança nas penitenciárias, estando expostos num ambiente perigoso. Isso somado a jornadas excessivas de trabalho, infraestrutura precária e condições de trabalho inapropriadas podem causar comprometimento da saúde mental desses indivíduos. Tendo isso em vista, este estudo possui o objetivo de realizar uma revisão integrativa por meio de produções científicas do Brasil, para investigar os aspectos emocionais apresentados por policiais penais relacionados aos riscos ocupacionais que podem afetar suas condições de saúde. O presente estudo trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura realizada nas bases de dados eletrônicas SCIELO e LILACS. Desta forma, foram utilizadas pesquisas publicados de 2011 a 2021, na língua portuguesa e de livre acesso. Os estudos apontaram que os policiais penais são submetidos a fatores de risco ocupacionais, condições trabalhistas precárias, rotina de tensão e medo relacionados a insegurança, e estes fatores geram nesses indivíduos perturbação do sono, ansiedade, estresse; comportamentos antissociais, insonia, descontrole emocional que resulta em brigas e conflitos conjugais, agressividade, estado de vigilância, restrição na vida social, sentimento de solidão, “dessensibilização” quanto aos relacionamentos sociais, tendência ao isolamento social e fragilização dos laços coletivos, sofrimento psíquico, comportamentos com características compulsivas, fenômenos psicossomáticos e agressividade, que resultaram em necessidade de afastamento do trabalho, doenças crônicas e vícios. Pode-se concluir portanto, que são necessárias medidas para minimizar o surgimento de doenças mentais em policiais penais, sendo imprescindível ações para melhoria nas condições de trabalho, ações para promoção da saúde, como atendimento psicológico, e prevenção de doenças nesses trabalhadores.

Objectives: Working with prison inmates involves constant contact with a stigmatized population, in hostile conditions where the working environment facilitates burnout syndrome among prison workers. The objective of this study is to carry out a bibliographic review to find pioneering and current publications, recognize the authors specializing in the subject and identify the most common findings of their research. Material and method: The tree of science (ToS) reference search method was used, which applies an analysis of data networks to find the most relevant scientific articles on a specific topic, in this case burnout syndrome. This tool shows the results in the form of a tree, where the root is formed by the classic publications, the trunk for the ones that have shaped the subject and the leaves are the most recent articles. Results: We found 140 published documents. The ToS selected 92 articles. The studies contained in the three parts of the ToS were analyzed; some of the determining factors were related to organizational structure, participation in decision-making, satisfaction and commitment to work, and lack of service and programs to help with depression or other mental conditions. Discussion: Some factors related to the work that these workers do, combined with the organizational shortages present in prisons, impose stress that leads to burnout syndrome in these employees. To reduce the syndrome, structural changes are needed in the institutions, as well as the strengthening of personal and professional skills and the social integration of prison workers.
