Simultaneous Studies with Fe59 and Cr51 in Congenital Haemolytic Anaemias

Abstract: SummaryDouble tracer methods using Fe59 and Cr51 for simultaneous clinical investigations of erythropoiesis and red cell destruction are described. In these methods, the clearance of intravenously injected Fe59 from the plasma and its incorporation into the red cells is followed by the assay of blood samples, whilst the turnover of Fe59 by the tissues is followed by body surface counting. At the same time, the survival of Cr51-labelled red cells in the circulating is followed by the assay of blood samples whils… Show more

“…Four did not show an initial rise (cases 1, 4, 8, 9) but one of them had a secondary accumulation (case 4). Four were char acterized with a low initial rise without any release in the following days (cases 3,6,7,12). Seven of the 13 aplastic patients were studied simultaneously with 59Fe and 51Cr and 3 with 51Cr only (Fig.3).…”

“…Bone marrow biopsy showed a hypoplasia with the presence of nucleated red cells and immature myeloid cells in the peripheral blood (Table III and We used the radioisotopic method described by M alamos el al. (12). A sample of the patient's plasma is incubated with about 10 ftc S9Fe for 30 min and the labelled plasma injected intravenously.…”
