Simultaneous adsorption of Hg 2+ , Cd 2+ and Cu 2+ ions from aqueous solution with mesoporous silica/DZ and conditions optimise with experimental design: kinetic and isothermal studies

Abstract: This study used dithizon (DZ) and mesoporous as a sorbent for simultaneous removal of heavy metal (mercury, cadmium and copper) ions from aqueous solution and real samples. Santa Barbara Amorphous synthesised and characterised by X-ray diffraction, Fouriertransform infrared spectroscopy and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller. Heavy metal ions measured by atomic absorption spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry. Optimised conditions such as pH, removal time, sorbent dosage and concentrati… Show more

“…Response Surface Methodology (RSM) is used for optimizing the adsorption conditions of cadmium ions by G-MCM-41. RSM analyze the interactions between the independent variables and response [20,21]. The effect of different physiochemical parameters such as pH, heavy metal ion initial concentration and contact time was examined using Box-Behnken design (BBD).…”

“…Acid hydrolysis has a good reproducibility compared to other methods; it is very common and cheapest if compared with the other methods of the hydrolyzing process [ 17 ]. The 5-level 3-factor (i.e., temperature, acid concentration, and hydrolyzing time) experiment was designed by the central composite design (CCD) method using a Design-Expert (version 11) [ 18 ]. Experiments were conducted according to the designed process conditions.…”

“…3,4 Therefore, it is of great signicance to establish a highly selective and sensitive detection method for Hg 2+ . There are many traditional methods for the determination of Hg 2+ , such as atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), 5 anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV), 6 inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), 7 inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), 8 liquid chromatograph-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) 9 and other sophisticated methods. However, expensive and complex instruments, a lengthy process and procedures for pre-treatment of complex samples all limit the application of these methods.…”
