Simulation Model and Method for Active Torsional Vibration Control of an HEV

Abstract: Hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) might cause new noise vibration and harshness (NVH) problems, due to their complex powertrain systems. Therefore, in this paper, a new longitudinal dynamic simulation model of a series-parallel hybrid electric bus with an active torsional vibration control module is proposed. First, the schematic diagrams of the simulation model architecture and the active control strategy are given, and the dynamic models of the main components are introduced. Second, taking advantage of the cha… Show more

“…However, complex drive systems of motor vehicles, such as diesel-electric (hybrid) drives, on the one hand improve the energy efficiency of the source and reduce the emission of harmful exhaust components, but on the other hand, they can generate an increased level of torsional vibrations in the wheel drive system. For this reason, these systems are now attracting increasing interest from researchers in the field of the control and optimization of the torsional vibration level [15]. The phenomena accompanying torsional vibrations of crankshafts drew particular attention for the first time in the shipbuilding industry in the 1920s.…”

“…This allows the same basic model to be used for both forward-facing and backward-facing simulations depending on the inputs given [54]. Acausal models tend to be slightly more complex and time-consuming to develop and validate, but there are a number of software packages such as openModelica [54,55], Dymola [52,53,65], Simscape Driveline [52], and AMESim [66][67][68] which are available with pre-defined interfaces, component models, and even example systems to alleviate this issue. The major advantage of this type of model is that systems and components can be re-used much more readily and for many different purposes.…”

“…23 It is claimed in Zhong et al. 24 that the active control method greatly improved the system’s torsional vibration performance. Active control of gear mesh dynamics was studied with the feedback control structure in Li et al.…”
