Simulation based feasibility confirmation of using hybrid powertrain system in unmanned dump trucks

Abstract: The use of medium-duty vehicles (up to 50 tons) with a simultaneous reduction in technological and operational downtime, which is achieved by automated traffic control and loading and unloading systems, as well as optimization of technological maintenance modes, can be considered a new trend in the development of mining transport. The solution that meets the requirements and current development trends is the use of medium-duty unmanned dump trucks (UDT) in the interests of the Russian coal industry. An assessm… Show more

“…Regarding manned trucks, the analysis is related to different position configurations of the motorization system on the hub of the front or rear wheels [44] and to the positioning of the battery pack in the frontal or posterior region of the vehicle chassis, with the objective of improving the comfort of the driver [52]. As for the application in unmanned trucks, the traction and energy regeneration system consists of two electric motors, one for the traction of the front axle and the other for the rear axle, with the objective of evaluating the energy consumption in relation to trucks with a system of traditional transmission and an internal combustion engine [53].…”

“…Two-flow stepless hydraulic-mechanical transmissions are mainly used on tractors [1] and mine diesel locomotives [2] with a small engine power. However, for quarry dump trucks [5,6] the system of storing electrical energy in largecapacity capacitors in braking modes (regenerative braking) with its subsequent use in acceleration and traction modes is quite effective, as well as the storage of electrical energy can be additionally carried out during operation of the diesel generator set in idle mode.…”
