Silver Nanoparticle Loaded Activated Carbon: An Escalated Nanocomposite with Antimicrobial Property

Abstract: In this work, the antimicrobial property of nanocomposite prepared by loading of silver nanoparticle onto activated carbon (AgNP-AC) was studied. The silver nanoparticles were synthesized biologically from the culture Enterobacter aerogenes and loaded onto the activated carbon. The nanoparticle and nanocomposite were characterized by UV-vis, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction studies. The spectroscopic assay and zone inhibition test for E. coli and B. subtilis clearly illustrates the antibacter… Show more

“…In the Ag/ZnO/AC sample a mixture of nanorods and spherical particles were obtained with a high degree of aggregation whiler Ag-ZnO/AC mainly displayed a spherical shape with an average diameter of 35 nm. The bright spots appearing in the SEM images confirm the successful incorporation of AgNPs and ZnONPs on the AC surface [3].…”

“…Few data on antibacterial activities against E. cloacae is available in the literature. Studies are typically focused especially on E. coli, K. pseudomonas and S. aureus [3,4,6,57]. Ag/ZnO/AC was the worst of the samples tested based on the measured inhibition zone diameter [4].…”

“…AC has a broad XRD pattern without any sharp and intense peaks since it is an amorphous structure (43,44). AgNP@AC yielded almost the same XRD pattern as that of AgNPs which means that there is no significant change in AgNPs (44,45).…”
