Sialendoscopy: A Review of 133 Cases

Abstract: Objective: The aim is to review the effectiveness of sialendoscopy in treating various salivary gland disorders related to the duct. Methods: A total of 133 patients who underwent sialendoscopy were included in this study. Data was collected from case records of patients and was analysed. A detailed history examination was taken and the operative findings were analysed. Causes of obstructive sialadenitis were evaluated and treated. “…In cases of dubious diagnoses, the superior diagnostic modality was sialendoscopy as it provided direct and real-time visualization of the entire ductal system. 18 The reporting of whichever diagnostic modality chosen always included type of pathology, location, size, density (where applicable), diameter of punctum, and others.…”

“…At present, US represents an excellent first-level diagnostic technique in preoperative work-up. However, Deenadayal et al observed that US is a good modality with high sensitivity for lithiasis, but it has low sensitivity in nonlithiasic obstructions 19 . In our series, the majority of patients were investigated through CT to exclude or confirm the presence of stones and to assess their precise dimensions and number.…”

“…Sialendoscopy alone is nowadays part of the main diagnostic tools, improving the sensitivity of traditional imaging approaches 19 . It offers an additional advantage due to its therapeutic action in dilating the salivary ducts with high-pressure saline solution, washing and, consequently, treating moderate stenosis and strictures.…”
