Shakespeare’s works at that time considered a work of high art. The influence of his work has been a source of inspiration for many artists to create paintings, operas and ballet performances. Studying Shakespeare is like studying life from multiple perspectives: psychological, political, philosophical, social, spiritual. The rhythms he uses in his words are reflected in the rhythms of our bodies. Known as the greatest English-language writer in history, and earning him the nickname of England's national poet, William Shakespeare is the author with the most-played theatrical work to date. More than four centuries since his death, William Shakespeare is still one of the greatest English playwrights. The tens of thousands of people who throng to see Shakespeare's plays will be able to hear the 1700 words created by Shakespeare. Many of his words are currently in use. Examples: "deafening" (deaf)," hush", "hurry" (quickly), " downstairs" (below), " gloomy" (sad), " lonely" (alone), "embrace" (hugs), " dawn" (twilight). The spelling used by Shakespeare was different from his time. Elizabethans spelled words as they were written, such as Latin and Indonesian. There is no "correct" way to spell. People write a word the way they want it to be spelled.

Neste artigo, objetivamos analisar o romance Sonho de uma noite de verão (2007), escrito por Adriana Falcão e publicado como parte da Coleção Devorando Shakespeare. Mais especificamente, pretendemos examinar como o próprio Shakespeare, através de um processo de releitura antropofágico e paródico, foi recriado como personagem dessa narrativa. Apesar de ser por vezes apontado como símbolo dos valores e ideologias ocidentais/modernos/colonialistas, Shakespeare pode também ser percebido e utilizado como um potente remédio ou antídoto criado no/pelo Sul. Através de uma desobediência epistêmica e da recuperação intercultural e ambivalente da figura de Shakespeare em meio às práticas e costumes do Carnaval de Salvador, defendemos que Falcão cria uma narrativa brasileira descolonial, capaz de antropofágica e parodicamente subverter discursos hegemônicos do Norte.

People from different countries reshape and revise Hamlet to suit their situations and alter their personalities accordingly. Hamlet highlights issues in political, moral, social and cultural spheres of a country. Shakespeare’s Hamlet attracts the minds of readers to the extent that they establish a link with their unconscious minds; thus resulting in an empathetic connection between readers, characters and the adapters. This paper offers an analysis of the different adaptations of Shakespeare’s Hamlet in some countries. It delineates the link between Hamlet and its adaptations, particularly Haider –an Indian adaptation. This paper compares Hamlet and Haider and draws parallels between the two in order to highlight and address contemporary problems especially that of conflict between Pakistan and India over Kashmir. This paper talks about Haider that successfully created the desired impact which should be the purpose of an adapted play. Essentially qualitative in nature, this paper uses the lens of Linda Hutcheon –Theory of Adaptation- to conduct textual analysis.
