Objective: To analyze the perceptions of care among elderly couples. Method: A qualitative exploratory-descriptive type study was carried out in Maringá in the state of Paraná, from May to June 2017. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview conducted at the home of 15 elderly couples and analyzed through Bardin’s Content Analysis, discussed in the light of Jean Watson’s Theory of Transpersonal Care. Results: Three thematic categories emerged: 1) meaning attributed to mutual care; 2) daily activities as forms of care and 3) feelings that permeate care among elderly couples. Conclusion: Elderly couples have multifaceted perceptions of care, permeated by their emotional relationship, bonding, partnership and everyday activities. Health professionals should consider the elderly couple rather than isolated individuals, in order to understand the multiple dimensions of care among elderly couples and their influences on health and well-being, facilitating integral and better quality care for this specific population.

Objective: to analyze the association between sexuality and quality of life of Brazilian elderly residents in the community. Methods: a cross-sectional study conducted with 477 Brazilian elderly. The data were collected between August and October 2020. We used the EVASI and WHOQOL-OLD (World Health Organization Quality of Life). Data analysis was performed with Mann-Whitney, Spearman and Kruskal-Wallis correlation tests, with Bonferroni post-hoc application when necessary, considering a 95% confidence interval. Results: there was a statistical association between all dimensions of sexuality and the general quality of life of the elderly (p<0.05). Conclusion: the stimulation of sexuality can be configured as an innovative and holistic strategy focused on the promotion of health and active aging, since this study found the association between sexuality and the general quality of life of elderly people.

Bibliometric analysis of scientific research about sexuality and dementia in the elderly

Map global scientific research on sexuality and dementia in the elderly to understand the focus and the growth of the area during the past decades. An exploratory study, descriptive and bibliometric with academic works on the database ISI Web of Knowledge/Web of ScienceTM. The following descriptors were used: “elder*”, “dementia*” and “sexuality*” in the time-based scratch between 1945 and 2018. The data analysis was performed with the aid of the software HistCiteTM. After applied the filters of refinement, there were identified 79 articles, published in 45 different journals indexed in the database in reference, written by 157 authors linked to 96 research institutions located in 19 countries. To achieve these articles there were used 2,312 references with an average of approximately 32 references per article. The international scientific production about sexuality and dementia in the elderly is scarce, and highlights the need for more specific studies on the theme and its potential for exploitation in future studies.
