“…With regard to current biomarkers used in the clinic, this is the expected concentration range, giving us hope that new lung cancer markers should be detectable in serum. Through our method, we successfully identified proteins that are putative or currently used as biomarkers of lung cancer, including CEA (27,28), pro-GRP (29,31), SCC antigen (47,48), tumor M2-PK (49), NCAM (35)(36)(37), chromogranin A (29), and chromogranin B (30). In addition, we identified putative markers previously reported in lung-related proteomics studies such as member C1 of aldo-keto reductase family 1 identified by Huang et al (25) as dihydrodiol dehydrogenase and matrix metallopeptidase 1 found to be overexpressed in lung cancer patients and especially in late stage (18).…”

“…IL18Bpa is a potent inhibitor of IL-18, which is a central player in inflammation and in the immune response, and which has antineoplastic properties. ICAM-1 is expressed by leukocytes, epithelial cells, endothelial cells and tumor, stimulates neovascularization [17], and is elevated in the serum of patients with cancer [18]. IL-17 is a pro-inflammatory cytokine, that plays a crucial role in the development of autoimmunity and allergic reactions, and the expression of IL17 from Th17 is stimulated by IL23, which promotes tumor incidence and growth [19].…”

“…ICAM1, also known as CD54, is typically expressed on endothelial cells and cells of the immune system, and plays an important role in inXammation-related process and immune surveillance (Frenette and Wagner 1996). It is expressed the highest in human lung, and its expression is also detected in normal adult prostate tissue, prostate tumor tissue and prostate cancer cells, and in serum (Nishimura and Naito 2005;Rokhlin and Cohen 1995;Lynch et al 1997). ICAM4 is exclusively expressed in erythrocytes (Hermand et al 2003) and ICAM5 mainly expressed in speciWc areas of the brain (Yoshihara et al 1994), both of which are likely involved in cellular adhesion and cell signaling events however, little experimental evidence supports a role for ICAM4 or ICAM5 in human cancer.…”
