“…Age is the most important factor contributing to IGF-1 variation. An Italian report [13] studied the inpatient and outpatient children aged 0 to 18 and the peak IGF-1 was 15 years old, which was in accordance with the Elmlinger's data [5]. Alice P.S.…”

“…In this way we may compare our results at the same GH threshold of 10 g/l before and after the introduction of the new method of analysis. IGF-1 was measured by different assays in different years (Nichols Advantage, San Juan Capistrano, Calif., USA, from 2003 to 2009 and Immulite 2000, Siemens, from 2010 to 2012) and expressed as raw value in micrograms per liter and SDS according to reference range [24]. The sensitivity limit of the assays were 6 and 20 µg/l, respectively; the intra- and interassay coefficients of variation were 4.8 and 6.7%, and 2.3-3.9 and 8.6-10.1%, respectively, for the two methods used in our laboratory in different years.…”

“…Bedogni et al 17 found that IGF-1 concentrations rose with increasing age in their cross-sectional study of 24,403 subjects 0 -18 y old. Conversely, IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 concentrations decreased following surgery in our study as the children aged (after making adjustments for time after surgery, disease duration, AHI, time spent at S pO 2 Ͻ 90%, and BMI Z score).…”
