Separation of Ternary Mixtures by Pseudo‐Simulated Moving‐Bed Chromatography: Separation Region Analysis

Abstract: The application of the pseudo‐simulated moving bed process, known as JO process of Japan Organo Co., to the separation of ternary mixtures was studied. In order to perform a desired separation, the choice of the different operation parameters such as the duration of each step and its respective flow rates requires the use of a methodology that could provide the best process performance. This issue is addressed by proposing an innovative method to determine the JO operation region, which establishes the operati… Show more

“…It determines the parameters that should be kept fixed in each series of experiments and is carried out until the highest magnitude reaches a predefined Cutoff Value (CV). The principle ranks the sensitivity of parameters based on their magnitude, M (p i ), given by 49 (8) where S pi is the p-th column of matrix S.…”

“…However, the above processes were mainly applied to the three-component systems and rarely involved in the four-component separation systems. [27][28][29] Kim et al 30 proposed the different multizone SMBs combining the characteristics of cascade theory and four-component separation. They studied those continuous processes theoretically, and developed relevant mathematical models.…”

“…Furthermore, some other strategies including three‐zone SMB, 23 five‐zone SMB, 24 gradient elution, 25 and partial injection 26 have been proposed for the separation of multiple components. However, the above processes were mainly applied to the three‐component systems and rarely involved in the four‐component separation systems 27–29 . Kim et al 30 proposed the different multizone SMBs combining the characteristics of cascade theory and four‐component separation.…”
