“…The results reveal a rather significant monthly variation with high values during the period March-June and decreasing towards the post-monsoon (October-November) and winter (December-February) seasons. The annual mean AOD 500 over the two-year period is found to be 0.52 ± 0.23, slightly lower than that reported by Kaskaoutis et al (2009) for the urban region of Hyderabad (0.57 ± 0.22) but significantly higher than those at other Indian cities not so industrialized (Suresh and Desa, 2005;Moorthy et al, 2007;Pantithurai et al, 2007;Gogoi et al, 2009). An interesting feature is the different monthly variation in the spectral AODs suggesting difference in the aerosol load and particle size.…”

“…The value of the angstrom exponent at (l = 870 nm) has been presumed to be nearly independent of the wavelength for almost all types of aerosol models such as oceanic, maritime, and coastal. Here, in this communication, the values of the wavelengths have been taken as 500 and 870 nm for calculating the corresponding angstrom exponent values for comparison purpose to another study (Suresh and Desa, 2005) conducted over 3 years from 2000 to 2002.…”

“…The objectives of the study were to prepare extensive database in this context for the area to assess its effect on the biodiversity of the Sundarbans and if possible to compare it with some previous study of a different coastal site. Measurements on AOD for coastal areas similar to our sampling site were not found, as our sampling site is unique in its own (Suresh and Desa, 2005), for all the filter channels except for 340 and 1,020 nm are reported in Table 4. It is observed that all the AOD values of the present sampling site are more than the values reported in the study conducted at Dona Paula, Goa (Suresh and Desa, 2005).…”
