Search for an exoticS=2,Q=2baryon resonance at a mass near 1862 MeV in quasireal photoproduction

Abstract: A search for an exotic baryon resonance with S = −2, Q = −2 has been performed in quasi-real photoproduction on a deuterium target through the decay channel Ξ − π − → Λ π − π − → pπ − π − π −. No evidence for a previously reported Ξ −− (1860) resonance is found in the Ξ − π − invariant mass spectrum. An upper limit for the photoproduction cross section of 2.1 nb is found at the 90% confidence level. The photoproduction cross section for the Ξ 0 (1530) is found to be between 9 and 24 nb.

“…The data from leptonic W -decays in polarized proton-proton collisions at RHIC [3][4][5][6][7] provide constraints in these global analyses, which now show a flavor asymmetry in the light sea-quark polarizations for parton momentum fractions, 0.05 < x < 0.25, at hard perturbative scales. The existence of such an asymmetry in the polarized PDFs has been searched for directly in semi-inclusive DIS experiments [8][9][10] but had thus far been established only in the case of the unpolarized PDFs. There, Drell-Yan measurements [11,12] and DIS measurements [13,14], in particular, have reported large enhancements in the ratio ofd overū antiquark distributions.…”

“…The model result for x variation of P LL (x, z, µ) are shown in Fig.11 and compared with the HERMES result [38] for π + and π − channels. We have taken the bin average values for z = 0.46 in the HERMES experiment.…”

“…However, a deluge of contrary experimental results followed this one positive claim for a cascade pentaquark. At least ten results have been released which repudiate the existence of the states seen by NA-49: from WA-89 [40], CDF [38], HERA-B [36], ALEPH [39], HERMES [41], FOCUS [42], BaBar [43], ZEUS [44], COMPASS [45], and E690/Fermilab [46]. In general, the negative reports have much higher statistics than the original positive report, and came from pp, ep, pA, and γA experiments.…”
