5-O-Caffeoylquinic acid: A spectroscopic study and biological screening for antimicrobial activity

“…For example, 3,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid shows antibacterial and antifungal activity with the MIC values: 0.250 mg/mL (against Aeromonas hydrophila), 1 mg/mL (Bacillus subtilis), 1 mg/mL (Staphylococcus aureus),and > 0.568 mg/mL (Aspergillus ochraceus) (Pereira, et al, 2008). 3,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic, 4,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic and 3-O-caffeoylquinic acids possess high antimicrobial activity with the inhibition zones of 27.1 ± 0.4, 26.9 ± 0.4 and 24.6 ± 0.4 mm against S. aureus and 23.2 ± 0.2, 23.4 ± 0.1, 21.3 ± 0.2 mm against E. coli, respectively (Xiong et al, 2013). In the same study the inhibition zone for sodium benzoate was 13.7±0.3 mm against E. coli and 14.5±0.2 mm against S. aureus.…”
