L‐Ascorbate sensor with polypyrrole‐coated carbon felt membrane electropolymerized in a cucumber juice solution

Abstract: Polypyrrole membrane was coated on a carbon felt surface by electropolymerization of pyrrole in an undiluted cucumber juice solution which contains a large amount of ascorbate oxidase. It was found that the polymerized carbon felt exhibited a large ascorbate oxidase activity. An ascorbate sensor, combining an oxygen electrode and the treated carbon felt membrane, was prepared by placing this carbon felt on the oxygen gas permeable membrane of an oxygen electrode. The resulting sensor gave a large current respo… Show more

“…A porous carbon felt working electrode [6][7][8][9] (13 mm diameter, 4 mm thickness) with Pt lead wire, a saturated calomel electrode (SCE) and platinum counter electrode were dipped into an electrolytic solution in 50 mL beaker. New carbon felt pieces can be cut from the large felt for each experiment.…”

“…In recent years, ECPs/ascorbate oxidase (AO) biosensors have been extensively studied. Wang et al9 reported the electrochemical immobilization of AO in polyaniline films; Uchiyam et al10 reported polypyrrole (PPy) being the choice of matrix coated carbon felt films for AO immobilization. In our groups, poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) have been studied by electrochemical immobilization of AO in PEDOT films for the fabrication of PEDOT/AO electrochemical biosensor 11.…”

“…Entrapment of GOx during the growth of PANI films at low pH due to its high tolerance has been extensively reported [125,[129][130][131][132][133][134][135][136][137] [84]. Similarly, incorporation of a number of other such enzymes has been studied and reported in literature [73,85,[139][140][141][142][143][144][145][146][147][148].…”
