Background Climate change poses a threat to global food security. Assessing research activity on food security in the presence of climate change is important for policymakers and funding sponsors to make future decisions. The current study aimed to give an overview of research activity on food security in the context of food security. Methodology A bibliometric methodology was implemented using the Scopus database for the period from 1980 to 2019. The search strategy utilized the title/abstract search of keywords related to food security and climate change with certain constraints. Bibliometric indicators, frequent author keywords, research themes, and international research collaboration were presented. Results The search query retrieved 5960 documents. The last decade of the study period witnessed an increasing trend in both the number of publications and the number of cumulative citations. The top five author keywords were climate change, food security, drought, adaptation, agriculture, and water scarcity. Mapping the retrieved documents showed four general research themes: water security, crop yield, food availability, and health. The Sustainability journal ranked first in terms of productivity while documents published in the Global Change Biology journal received the highest number of citations per document. At the country level, the USA ranked first in terms of numbers, India ranked first in terms of research productivity per GDP/capita, and the UK ranked first in terms of the number of citations per document. France and the Netherlands had the highest percentage of documents with international authors while India and China had the least. At the regional level, the European region had the highest contribution and the Eastern Mediterranean region had the least contribution. Half of the top-cited documents in the field were review articles and appeared in prestigious journals. At the institutional level, the active list included three Chinese and two American institutions. Conclusion Food security under the umbrella of climate change is an emerging global challenge. Research on new technologies to mitigate the impact of climate change on food security is a top priority. Research contribution and collaboration from world regions with limited resources should be encouraged.

O Legado Da Rainha Vermelha Para a Biodiversidade: Tendências Dos Estudos Desenvolvidos Após Mais De Quatro Décadas De Formulação

Uma revisão sistemática do impacto da Teoria da Rainha Vermelha (TRV) foi realizada desde o ano da sua formulação em 1973 até 2018. Publicada há 45 anos, a TRV tenta elucidar a manutenção do sexo ao longo da árvore da vida, considerando os custos inerentes aos envolvidos. O objetivo geral do trabalho foi identificar, tendências, lacunas e sistemas biológicos onde a TRV é válida em diferentes disciplinas relacionadas à biodiversidade. Houve uma frequência variável de citações e um aumento das publicações na última década. Quanto ao número de publicações, todos os principais países são ricos: Estados Unidos da América, Inglaterra e Suíça. As revistas de alto fator de impacto foram responsáveis por 30 % dos artigos publicados e os estudos de nível populacional, compostos por 70 % das publicações, provavelmente porque os artigos da TRV estudaram a coevolução interespecífica, quando abordados pela perspectiva ecológica. A maioria dos artigos focou em invertebrados e microorganismos, superando as publicações com vertebrados e plantas. As publicações abrangeram todas as disciplinas relacionadas com a biodiversidade, mas a Biologia Evolutiva e a Ecologia foram as mais predominantes. Isso demonstra o potencial aumento do impacto, visibilidade e discussão da teoria refletida em estudos de ciências naturais de longo prazo, contribuindo para o aumento do apoio financeiro e questões que abordam outros grupos taxonômicos e níveis ecológicos, tornando-se historicamente uma fonte de subsídio teórico de informação.

This study investigates characteristics of seafood quality literature through application of bibliometric techniques. No previous studies that examined this field of science. The objectives are to examine seafood literature’s growth, document types, place/language of publishing, and author productivity patterns (analysed using Lotka’s law). A total of 2267 records were retrieved (up to 11 May 2016) from Web of Science and Scopus. Literature grew exponentially from 2000 to 2013 following the development of this field. Values obtained were c = 1.038, g = 1.118 and R2 = 0.946. Annual growth rate was 11.8%. The bibliography duplicates every 6.2 years. The most common publications were journal articles (64%), as expected. Per country, the U.S.A. made most major contributions, and English was the most-used language. A total of 5,583 authors, including co-authors, were retrieved; every paper’s author was given one credit to measure productivity. The majority (75%; 4175 authors) contributed only one article. These data do not fit Lotka’s law.
