Idiopathic heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB; IHMB) is a common gynecological problem with no pelvic pathology or general bleeding disorder. Herbal remedies are commonly used to treat HMB. This systematic review aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of herbal preparations for the treatment of IHMB. MEDLINE, Ovid, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched from inception to 23 August 2015. Only randomized controlled trials were considered. Three randomized controlled trials were included in this systematic review. Different herbal preparations were used in the included trials. In two studies, Ginger capsules and myrtle fruit syrup significantly reduced the menstrual duration and blood loss compared with placebo based on the pictorial blood loss assessment chart score (p < 0.001, p = 0.01). In another trial, Punica granatum flower capsules were as effective as tranexamic acid capsules in reducing the mean (SD) pictorial blood loss assessment chart score, with no significant difference between the two treatments (p = 0.3). The results show that the methods used in these trials may reduce menstrual bleeding in women with IHMB. Additional well-designed trials are needed to investigate the safety and efficacy of herbs for the treatment of women with IHMB or other forms of HMB.

Among the numerous scientific works of Avicenna (980-1037), the magnificent Persian polihistor, the five-volume-long Kanun fi Tib / Canon of Medicine, written 1013-1021) is the most outstanding. The second and fifth volumes contain the names of herbs Avicenna used ever successfully to cure different conditions. His work was founded by both antique GreekRoman and Far-Eastern medicine. Avicenna represented the originally Galen's "contraria contrariis" medical principle as he described over 600 compound preparations. Many herbs listed in the Canon are still widely administered. He also invented water-vapour distillation. Avicenna applied beyond herbs also preparations containing animal or mineral materials and their combinations. Avicenna az iszlám kultúra kimagasló személyisége volt. Élete során Afshana, Bukhara, Gurgonj, Nissa, Baward, Tus, Chaggan, Samangan, Gorgan, Raly, Hamadan, Isfahan belső-ázsiai városokban működött, keresve a békét és stabilitást, ezért az arabok, és a törökök is ki akarták sajátítani maguknak [1][2][3][4][5]. Avicenna rendkívüli megfigyelőképességével és tudásszomjával új irányt mutatott a természettudományban. Avicenna több mint 100 tudományos művet írt. Nevéhez fűződik a vízgőzdesztilláló-készülék és a termométer feltalálása is [6].

Background: According to the Iranian Traditional Medicine (ITM) resources, myrtle (Myrtus communis L.) resolves swelling, wounds and injuries; its wound exsiccation capability and tissue enforcement properties may be helpful in the treatment of the rhinosinusitis. Objectives:The objective of the current trial was to assess the effects of Myrtus communis aqueous extract in the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis. Methods: A total of 38 patients referring to the Masih Daneshvari Hospital (Tehran, Iran) for the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis during the year 2016 were recruited for a double-blinded randomized placebo-controlled trial. They were randomly allocated in 2 groups: 22 patients were in the treatment group and 16 patients in the placebo group. Recruitment was based on the European position paper on rhinosinusitis (EPOS). Patients' data, including demographic information, SNOT22 questionnaire scores, and visual analog scale (VAS), were gathered and recorded by an otolaryngologist. Patients were investigated with a CT scan of the paranasal sinuses at the beginning of the study. Results: A total of 13 patients (59.1%) in the treatment group were female and 7 in the placebo group (43.7%). The median age of patients in the treatment group was 38.86 (18 -68) and in the placebo group 39.93 (22 -75) years.
