A Universal Compensation Strategy to Anchor Polar Organic Molecules in Bilayered Hydrated Vanadates for Promoting Aqueous Zinc‐Ion Storage

The electrochemical performance of layered vanadium oxides is often improved by introducing guest species into their interlayer. Guest species with high stability in the interlayer and weak interaction with Zn2+ during charge/discharge process are desired to promoting reversible Zn2+ transfer. Herein, a universal compensation strategy was developed to introduce various polar organic molecules into the interlayer of AlxV2O5·nH2O by replacing partial crystal water. The high‐polar groups in the organic molecules have a strong electrostatic attraction with pre‐intercalated Al3+, which ensures that organic molecules can be anchored in the interlayer of hydrated vanadates. Simultaneously, the low‐polar groups endow organic molecules with a weak interaction with Zn2+ during cycling, thus liberalizing reversible Zn2+ transfer. As a result, AlxV2O5 with polar organic molecules displays enhanced electrochemical performance. Furthermore, based on above cathode material, a pouch cell was assembled by further integrating a dendrite‐free N‐doped carbon nanofiber@Zn anode, displaying an energy density of 50 Wh kg‐1. This work provides a path for designing stable guest species with a weak interaction with Zn2+ in the interlayer of layered vanadium oxide towards high‐performance cathode materials of aqueous Zn batteries.

Mg-air batteries are explored as the next-generation power systems for wearable and implantable electronics as they could work stably in neutral electrolytes and are also biocompatible. However, high corrosion rate and low utilization of Mg anode largely impair the performance of Mg-air battery with low discharge voltage, poor specific capacity and low energy density. Here, to the best of our knowledge, we first report a dual-layer gel electrolyte to simultaneously solve the above two problems by preventing the corrosion of Mg anode and the production of dense passive layer, respectively. The resulting Mg-air batteries produced an average specific capacity of 2190 mAh g À1 based on the total Mg anode (99.3 % utilization rate of Mg anode) and energy density of 2282 Wh kg À1 based on the total anode and air electrode, both of which are the highest among the reported Mg-air batteries. Besides, our Mg-air batteries could be made into a fiber shape, and they were flexible to work stably under various deformations such as bending and twisting.Wearable and implantable electronic devices represent the next-generation electronics and are booming rapidly in the recent decade. [1][2][3] To stably and long-termly power these electronic devices, it is critical to make matchable and safe energy storage devices. [4][5][6][7] To this end, metal-air batteries with high energy densities have attracted increasing interests. [8,9] Among them, Mg-air batteries work stably in neutral electrolytes and are also biocompatible as Mg 2+ ions are harmless to the human body. [10][11][12] Therefore, Mg-air batteries are explored as promising candidates on the skin and inside the body.

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) have attracted significant attention due to their intrinsic safety, cost-effectiveness, and environmental friendliness. However, the common zinc metal anode suffers from zinc dendrite formation, self-corrosion, and surface passivation, which impede the further application of aqueous ZIBs. Herein, carbon-inserted molybdenum dioxide (MoO 2 ) materials with laminated structure are designed as novel intercalation-type anodes for ZIBs by combination of interlayer engineering and in situ carbonization of aniline guest in molybdenum trioxide interlayers. The uniform dispersion of carbon layers in laminated MoO 2 not only provide fast transportation paths for electron but also strengthen the framework of MoO 2 , leading to high structural integration during high-rate cycling. Benefiting from the unique structural design, the carbon-inserted MoO 2 electrode exhibits high initial Coulombic efficiency, excellent cycling stability, and outstanding rate capability. Multiple ex situ characterizations reveal its excellent electrochemical stability is derived from reversible intercalation mechanism and ultrastable structural framework. Furthermore, the rocking-chair zinc-ion full battery assembled with the zinc pre-intercalated Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 2 O 2 F cathode presents excellent stability and ultralong lifespan with a high capacity retention of 91% over 8000 cycles.
